Moving Through Mud

I have this tug of war going on. I don’t have all day to sew, as nice as that would be, and some evenings I am too exhausted from wrangling 5 kids all day to even think about sewing. Seriously, it’s like a daycare around here some days. But I try, even on nights like tonight when I have a project on my sewing table that is oh so close to being finished, I just feel like my mojo has gone to bed before I’m ready. I have been sewing though. And not just for the kids. I managed to make myself two shirts and a pair of pants that don’t fit! Well, they fit, but there are a few places where they are snug. But now I know where I need to make some adjustments for my next pair.

I think part of my problem is that I see so many awesome patterns that I desperately want to sew, but our budget has been extremely tight, so new patterns aren’t even on my list. Boo!!! I did score a big box of about 40 vintage patterns for $30 the other day so there’s that. I also have a fabric addiction that I shouldn’t feed. I manage to still buy remnants though. I have found some pretty nice stuff in the remnant piles, even at Wally World. I usually look there first then scour the racks for eye candy.

There are a few things I have planned for the next few months. I have a pattern hack tutorial that I think y’all would like and I’m also adding a new section on homeschooling. This will be a new venture for me. I’ll be homeschooling Buddy Bear this year after being in private school the last three years. I am looking forward to seeing how this works for us and I’ll do my best to share our adventure and misadventures. So, until then, I’ll just plug away at the projects on my sewing table and get to planning away for the things down the road.

Good night!

New Year, New Goals

Happy New Year everyone!! I hope y’all had a blessed Christmas! We had a flurry of activity during the holiday season. Children’s choir for church, two school Christmas plays, Sunday School parties, adult choir at church, three Christmases, and then the new year. (We don’t do anything for new year since the majority of our children are 4 and under.) During all this, we also had a yucky little tummy bug roll through the house and I was trying to sew stuff, on top of being stressed about some non-sewing things. Oh! And Doll Face decided, the week of Christmas, that she no longer wanted to be in diapers. So it was potty training boot camp, too. Talk about crazy!! I had a mini meltdown Christmas eve night. It was not pretty, but I felt much, much better.

School has been back in session for a week and it feels good to be back in our normal routine. There are always so many things that I want to get done on the days that everyone is at school, I hardly know where to start! But I managed to make a small bin for some of the boys toys and I have finally started on a dress for one of my nieces for Christmas. (Yeah, a little late. I know.) I don’t believe in new year’s resolutions, because I know I won’t keep them. So instead, I’m going to make some small, doable goals for myself. And if I don’t get to some of them, then that’s ok. I’m not going to stress about it.

I need to put away a ton (and it probably is a ton) of clothes, rearrange the rooms, paint one of the rooms (eventually), do a mini upgrade to the upstairs bathroom, clean all the windows down stairs (inside and out), paint miles of trim, sew, and sew for myself. I also want to do a few sewing swaps.  I’ve already joined a valentines swap, so I’ve been scouring Pinterest for ideas. I think I know what I’m going to make. I can’t wait to get started!

That’s not a comprehensive list, but it’s a start. And we all have to start somewhere.

Until next time, Mister E says stay cool!

Things they are a changing!

It’s been a while I know, but I have been rather busy while I’ve been away. We have added another member to our little family. Mister E was born in July.

Mister E

Mister E

He is such a great baby.  He sleeps right through the chaos that is our life. So now we have a 7 yo, 4 yo, almost 3 yo, 2 yo, and 2 month old. Having 5 kids has been a challenge, but then again, so was adding #3 and #4. It’s really no different.  The others have all been adjusting great and Doll Face has been so motherly and affectionate with him. (Wow, four boys and one girl.  Blessed!)

In addition to our new addition, I have been assessing what it is I want to do with this blog. Because I had no real focus as to what I was doing, it was easy to set it aside and forget about it for a while.  Not any more. I have a love of sewing. I truly enjoy making clothes and things for my home and for other people. So this blog will be dedicated to my sewing from here out.  I will also start selling items. I am working on a store and what will go in it. I won’t be limiting my self to just clothes, or even girls clothes. Bag/totes, pillows, whatever! The only thing I can’t do is monograming/embroidery. Maybe some day I’ll have the right equipment for that job. But in the mean time, if there is something you want made, just send me an email and we’ll work it out from there!
